Hanworth Milkie Delivers the Best Pint in the UK!

Roy Dyer - MOTY Winner 2005

Dairy Crest Milkman Roy Dyer has fought off stiff competition to win the title of Milkman of the Year 2005. Dyer, who fundraises tirelessly for Leukaemia Research, gives talks to primary school children and offers support to his elderly customers was nominated by his customers and judged by the industry.

Devotion to the job and outstanding customer service, have put him at the top of his game. Dyer, 57, a franchisee milkman, has been based at Dairy Crest’s Hanworth depot for over 10 years and has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Dyer, has appeared on BBC’s Fat Nation, and in two educational films about milk, one which was aimed at pushing UK milk sales in Finland. His contributions to the community do not stop there. Every year he sponsors a coffee day at the Cambridge Home for Soldier’s Widows, near Hampton Court Palace, where he supplies all the milk for their coffee morning.

He serves over 600 customers on his round in Hanworth, Middlesex, many of whom he counts as close friends. He has worked in the milk industry for over 20 years and tonight he will be sitting back and celebrating with a glass of his favourite tipple, dry white wine.

Edmund Proffitt, Processing Manager for Dairy UK and the awards organiser says, “Roy Dyer is an excellent example of what being a milkman is all about. He’s painted the houses of sick customers when they have been unable to, he has single handedly raised over £15,000 for Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, and he always puts his customers first, so you could say he does more than is expected of him in a day’s work.”

He continued, “These day’s milkmen deliver much more than just the daily pint - from drinks to groceries. They not only supply customers straight to their doorsteps, they are the familiar trustworthy face that many of our customers, especially the housebound rely on for this excellent service. Roy is what the milk industry is all about. His customers are his friends and he always goes that extra mile to keep them happy. He relishes the community spirit and has lots of passion and enthusiasm for the job.”
